10 Cool Ways to Make Money with Your Phone in Nigeria (2024)
Want to transform your phone into a money making machine that brings you consistent income?
Then, you are not alone.
I've always wanted my phone to not just be a source for entertainment or communication, but also a real source of income.
If I'm glued to my phone for more than 15 hours per day, then it must be financially beneficial.
So, I've researched a few ways that anyone can start making money with their phone, right from where they are, and I want to share these ideas with you.
Hopefully, you can start making money on the go, and make your mobile phone a useful financial tool that consistently puts money in your pocket.
Let's get right into it.
Play-to-Earn Mobile Games
The first idea that comes to my mind is to just play games with your phone. Not just games for fun, but games that pay you to play.
Since you probably already play games with your mobile phone, why not just make money while at it.

You could be making up to $50 per week by just playing playing games and having fun on the go!
Create & Sell Instagram
Social media accounts are now valuable digital assets that people buy and sell. If you can create an Instagram account with some traction, you could flip it and get paid.
I know of someone who does this for a living. He literally creates, grow, and sell Instagram account as a full time job.
All he does is create parody accounts and grow them to about 10k followers. Then he sells them for profit.
He told me that he could grow an Instagram account to 10k followers in about 2 weeks, but he does about five accounts in batches.
So, about every 2 weeks, he sells 5 Instagram accounts and gets paid.
One Instagram account with about 10k followers goes for 20k Naira. So, he makes roughly 100k Naira every 2 weeks.
Not a bad income if you ask me.
Resell Internet Data
This is probably the easiest business to start with your mobile phone in Nigeria today. Almost everyone you know has a smartphone and buys internet data regularly.
So, it's a no-brainer that you can make money by selling internet data. You can start selling to your friends and family and tell them to recommend you to their friends and associates.
This is exactly how I started my internet data selling business and grew it to a VTU platform that makes me more money than all my other online ventures.
There's every chance that you can do the same too.
Become a Social Media Influencer
If you enjoy online banter and talking to strangers online, then you can become a social media influencer and make money with just your phone.
You could do this on Facebook, Twitter(X), Instagram, TikTok, and even Medium.
All you have to do is carve a niche and post interesting stuff on your social media page or channel. Once you are able to grow your following, you'll start getting brand deals that pay you.
There are many social media influencer niches you can start with, such as:
- Storytelling
- Politics
- Celebrity news
- Strange facts
- History
- Comedy
- Football
- Crypto
- Philanthropy & Giveaways
Or you can start with whatever content type you enjoy and gauge how your audience reacts to it.
The key is to keep posting content types that get the most engagement and reaction, until you're able to get enough traction to make money as an influencer.
Sing on Starmaker
I didn't know about Starmaker until recently when a particular friend told me that he makes money on the app.
He's actually an indie music artist with a few songs to his name, but he enjoys composing songs and doing music covers.
He told me that he earns a lot of gifts just by singing and gets a few tokens from participating in contests.
And he does all of this with just his mobile phone and a vest microphone. Imagine that.
I even advised him to repost the videos on YouTube and Tiktok, which could double whatever he earns from his karaoke and music covers.
You could do the same if you're a music addict like him, and you could be making some side income.
Flip Items Online
You'll be surprised if you know the number of people who don't know how to sell online.
Many people have things for sale, but they don't know how to reach a wider audience. They could post it on their facebook wall or WhatsApp status, and that's it.
Of course, they would usually make little or no sales with those methods.
If you know how to market items online, you could start a flipping business where you help people sell items online and get a commission of the sale.
You could even run ads and post on multiple platforms where you have made sales in the past.
I remember a time when I was relocating and didn't want to move my things along. I used a marketplace platform in Nigeria called Jiji, and I was able to sell everything within a month.
I made these sales with just my mobile phone, so that should tell you that anyone can do this, and do it profitably.
Start a Tiktok Channel
Tiktok is now the latest social media platform for Nigerians to make money by posting videos.
Even though I don't own a Tiktok channel, literally everyone I know today owns one, and a few of them make money with it.
So, if you have a smartphone, it's a no-brainer to start your own Tiktok channel and try to make money with it.
You could either post videos and make money via Tiktok’s monetization methods, or you could use the platform for marketing products and leverage the wide reach.
I know an affiliate marketer that is signed up with several affiliate marketing programs. He uses Tiktok to market affiliate products, and he makes substantial sales.
So, you can do the same or even think out of the box to find ways to make money with your Tiktok videos.
Start an Escrow Service
It's no news that the Nigerian internet marketing space is rife with scams of all types.
You could be sold fake products or even scammed via advance fee fraud where you make part upfront payment for nonexistent products or services.
You could also be scammed online by a merchant you've successfully done business with in the past.
So, there's a need for escrow services, and the demand is growing more than ever.
Currently, there are only a handful of trusted escrow services in the Nigerian internet space, but I don't think they are enough to sufficiently serve the market.
If you can grow a community on social media and get them to trust you, there's a chance that you can start offering your escrow services and grow from there.
Trade Cryptocurrency
You probably already trade crypto with your phone, so I’m just reminding you to stick with it.
I know this because almost everyone I know is either holding or farming crypto tokens with their mobile phones.
And you can do more if you stay active on the popular crypto platforms. There are a lot of opportunities to earn tokens either by engaging in tasks or supporting new crypto projects.
If you stick around and put in the time and effort, you could be making a reasonable earning from these crypto apps just from your mobile phone.
Start a Transcription Service
If you have an ear for accents, you could be making money by providing transcription services online.
There are several websites and mobile apps that pay users to transcribe video and audio files.
I did a recent review of one of them, Waywithwords, which pays English transcribers to transcribe movies and podcasts.
You can check them out and see if it's something that you can do.
Also, you could start a local transcription service by providing captions or subtitles for video contents.
You could volunteer to do some free jobs at first or just transcribe some random videos online to show your transcription skills.
If you show this skill enough to potential clients, it won't be long before you start getting offers to transcribe videos and audios.
And the good thing is, you can do all these via your mobile phone.
